Lake Lanier Junior Woman's Club

ABOUT US

The purpose of the Lake Lanier Junior Woman's Club is to foster mutual counsel and helpfulness within the community and to unite the influence of women in promoting education, civic, social and moral advancement. The club is nonpartisan, nonsectarian, and nonprofit.

The Lake Lanier Junior Woman's Club was established in April of 2009. We were sponsored by and continue to receive support from the Buford Lanier Woman's Club. We belong to the Georgia Federation of Women's Clubs.

The General Federation of Women's Clubs (GFWC), was one of the world's largest and oldest nonpartisan, nondenominational, women's volunteer service organizations, was founded in 1890 and chartered by the 56th United States Congress in 1901.

The GFWC is headquartered in a National Historic Landmark building in Washington, D.C., with a long history of philanthropy, social and political advocacy, and community leadership.

More than 100,000 members in affiliated clubs in every state and more than a dozen countries work in their own communities to support the arts, preserve natural resources, advance education, promote healthy lifestyles, encourage civic involvement, and work toward world peace and understanding.

In 2006, GFWC and its members raised nearly $32 million on behalf of more than 230,000 projects and volunteered more than 8.4 million hours.

Woman's Clubs have been instrumental in many changes that have taken place in the past century. A few examples include:
  • Women's Rights
  • Child Labor Laws
  • Working for Food and Drug Regulation
  • Developing Kindergartens in Public Schools
  • Prison Reform
